Blog 1.1

Hi Bloggers!  Welcome to my trip to develop and build healthy habits and self-discipline.  I started  last week on Monday with three basic, daily habits that I can maintain and develop.  These include making my bed every morning, getting to my first period class at school before the 5 minute bell rings, and doing at least 100 push ups every day.

Before I started this process, I was concerned with how well I'd be able to wake up and be motivated to make my bed and be to school earlier than I'm used to.  I am extremely lazy in the morning and I'm generally late or within a minute or two of the late bell.  My original plan was to complete my 100 push ups every morning but that didn't really work out so I decided to do them before I went to bed.  Maybe that's something I can work towards as a future goal.

I would like to experiment with different methods of developing habits, but so far I have tried the basic way of self-motivation.  I can say that it is not going super smooth.  Although, some habits are starting to become more natural. Right before I leave, I find it easy to take a minute or two to make my bed and my 100 push ups I tend to do after my homework are easier. I'm starting to do over 100 now.  Where I struggle is in making it to school on time.  I need to work on getting up and going earlier and I'd like to put a method to use in order to develop this habit.  Maybe music when I wake up? We'll see.

Thanks for checking in and I'll let you know how I'm doing next week!

  1. Have you tried setting an alarm for 5 minutes earlier to get to school on time?

  2. I also have been working on making better morning decisions and have been hitting the gym Monday, Wednesday, and Friday at 5:30 am and let me tell you I agree self motivation is hard to depend on to get things done but I find having a partner to help even remind you is something that helps.

  3. What an interesting genius hour topic. Developing healthy habits is certainly one of the hardest things we as humans try to do. I too have had trouble in the past waking up in the morning, and getting motivated for the day (especially when I’m getting up for something I don’t necessarily want to do). One thing I have found out is that when I set one alarm, and tell myself I have to wake up for it no matter what, I am always successful at getting up. Sometimes when we set multiple alarms the previous morning, it is almost impossible to get up when the first one sounds, knowing there is multiple ones behind it. I like how you are considering waking up to music as well. I have had success with that in the past. Keep working and expanding on these habits!
